Long Term Care is the care you receive when you can not take care of yourself. Long Term Care service may be provided in your home by a loved one or a professional, at an adult day care center, in an assistant living facility, or in a nursing home.

Purchasing Long Term Care (LTC) Insurance requires careful thought. LTC Insurance is complicated by the fact that there are no standardized plans and each plan must be pieced together from a variety of complex options.  Suitability Laws require that a licensed insurance agent determine if the coverage you select specifically meets your needs. Therefore, you will need to be prepared to have more than one face-to face interview with an insurance agent who will review and recommend coverage options that are right for you.

To begin, consider these basic LTC Insurance questions:

 1.  How long do you want the coverage to last? Do you want coverage for three years, five years or life time coverage?  A longer coverage period will mean a higher premium.

 2.  When do you want the policy to start? Do you want payments to start in 30, 60, or 90 days, or maybe in six months or a year?  A policy that starts paying sooner will carry a higher premium

3. How much per day do you want the plan to pay?

 4. Do you want home health care?

 5. Is compound interest, level interest, or no inflation protection best for you?
